Namaqualand daisies Download Booking Form >> 15 - 22 August 2009 29 August - 5 September 2009For 10 months of the year, the Namaqualand area of South Africa is a dry and dusty semi-arid desert. When the rains come however, the area is transformed into a wonderland of blooming Dimorphotheca daisies and a host of other flowering plants that envelop the area as if a giant hand had painted the landscape with a multicoloured brush. For throughout the year, under the hot and dusty soil lie the seeds of these plants. They remain patiently waiting for the rain to come. We too have been patiently waiting for the rain. For it is one of South Africa's great wonders and C4 Images and Safaris have planned this 6-night tour so that you can reap the most from such splendour.

The flowering of most plants takes place during the warm, sunlit hours of the day- from 09h00 - 16h00. This allows for easy wake ups and breakfast before touring or photographing. Thus the structure of this tour will be slightly different to normal tours of early wake ups. What to Photograph: Namaqualand offers a wide variety of subjects, ranging from floral, avi-faunal through to landscape scenery and portrait work.
Highlights are:
- The Dimorphotheca daisies that are the most common of the flowering plants.
- Other flowering plants such as bul-bines, succulents, mauvevygies, urshinas, bush vygies, gazanias and felicias to mention a few.
- Quiver tree forest.
- The Gannets at Bird Island, Lamberts Bay.
- Rugged and rocky scenery.
- Smaller birds in amongst the flowers.
- Candid photography of people in the towns.
- Niewoudville Waterfall in beautiful surrounds.
- Antelope species grazing amongst the flowering plants.
The flowering of the Namaqualand flowers is a seasonal and localised event. We have planned the safari in the most favourable time to see the plants at their best. However, we cannot guarantee the size and variety of these sightings. We will be using the knowledge of local specialists for this information to therefore make sure that flowers are seen.
